ASK MAX: MY IPOD WON’T PLAY – HELP!

I have been playing my iPod since May of this year as it was a retirement gift. Today, when I pushed play, nothing happened. I attempted all of the tips on the enclosed info but nothing happens. I now am hooked to the computer to try and fix it. I need some advice.
Answer:In many cases restarting Apple iPods will fix this issue. For the iPod Touch line, as well as iPhones and iPads, press and hold the Home button (the round one on the face) and Sleep button (top right edge) simultaneously for about 8-10 seconds until it forces the device off. Restart by pressing the Sleep button again until you see the Apple logo appear.
For Classic iPods, toggle the Hold switch on and off, then press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the screen flickers and the Apple logo appears. Assuming you have tried that and now need more help, you will need to go to the computer.
As a general fix-all for an iPod, try a complete Factory restore via iTunes or iCloud. This will wipe all the music off of the iPod and then take it back to its original conditions. You can then copy all your songs from iTunes back to the iPod.
If these attempts fail to revive your iPod, you will need to take it in for service or contact Apple for mail-in repair options.
