Ask Max: Do the new iMacs have FireWire ports?

Asked on 05/11/2009:

The descriptions of the current model iMacs don't mention firewire. Do they have firewire connections?

I'm afriad FireWire has gone the way of the dinosaur in Apple technology. Starting with the Unibody MacBook line, Apple discontinued FireWire, and the iMacs and others were soon to follow. Their Thunderbolt port has taken over because it's so much faster and more efficient than FireWire.

But don't despair! It's still very possible to use your FireWire external HD and other FireWire-enabled devices and peripherals with this handy FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter.
