Reviews of Apple’s third generation watch with cellular connectivity have revealed that the feature is not working as intended in some situations. The Apple Watch Series 3 cellular-connected model is priced at $399 and there will also be an additional monthly cost depending on the wireless plan. The new smartwatch from the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is expect to hit stores on September 22.
According to one of the reviews problems with the cellular-connected model were found in pre-production models and this was on two different wireless carriers and across two states. In a statement Apple admitted the fault and said it was due to a bug in the connectivity function of the smartwatch.
Software patch
“When Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular. We are investigating a fix for a future software release,” the statement from Apple read.
And in the case of the Apple smartwatches whose cellular connection was working, the battery life was too short. In one case normal use saw the battery last all day but when the cellular connection feature was in use, the battery life was less than five hours per full charge. The reviews were also critical of a color change on the side of the watch. In this cases it was bright red and this in sharp contrast to the watch bands that are available. According to some reviewers the color was drawing unnecessary attention.
Audio quality
As for the good points of the watch, most of the reviewers said the audio quality was excellent and they were able to make calls even on busy streets full of pedestrians and cars.
During the launch earlier in the month the chief executive officer of Apple, Tim Cook, said that with regards to revenue the Apple Watch was the leading smart watch across the globe. It had also reached a customer satisfaction level of 97%.
Besides the Apple Watch Series 3 iOS 11 which is latest operating system for Apple’s mobile devices has also been faulted because its Mail application experienced problems when sending emails using Outlook.com and Microsoft Exchange mail accounts.
