Apple is rapidly drawing close to the launch of its highly anticipated 10th generation handset, the iPhone 8 and there are rumors that the company might unveil three versions of the device.
The company recently confirmed that it plans to host the launch event on September 12 and word on the street is that Apple will launch three versions of the iPhone 8. There have also been rumors that the software and tech giant will also launch a new Apple Watch as well as the latest Apple TV box which will be 4K and HDR enabled. Apple has not confirmed the news about three versions of the iPhone 8.
Nikkei reported that the iPhone maker will introduce a premium iPhone 8 that will feature a curved edge-to-edge OLED display. This highlights previous reports about Apple purchasing OLED displays from its rival, Samsung Electronics. The other two models are expected to feature LCD displays. The source also revealed that the variants will come in different sizes; 4.7 inches, 5 inches and 5.5 inches.
“Apple has tentatively decided that all the 5.5-inch, 5-inch, and 4.7-inch models will have glass backs, departing from metal casings adopted by current iPhones, and Biel and Lens are likely to be providing all the glass backs for the new iPhones next year,” sources revealed.
The rumors also suggest that the devices will not include a home button though they will still feature Touch ID among other in-built sensors. The has also been speculation that Apple will include a fingerprint sensor built into the screen while other rumors had argued against this saying that the firm had not yet gotten the technology to function perfectly. However, one thing that seems almost certain is that the company is getting rid of the iconic home button.
The adoption of edge to edge display has certainly led to many changes but as much as there has been a lot of hype about the device. Some people still believe that the iPhone 9 might be the device to wait for as far as adoption of more screen real estate and radical tech offerings are concerned.
