The Power Macintosh G5 introduced Apple's long-running tower style with its anodized aluminum alloy case, extensive cooling features, and its introduction to 64-bit processing. Used Power Mac G5s (some resellers call them reseller refurbished Power Macs) are in high demand due to their expandability and speed, especially with pre-Intel based software.
The Dual Core models were the only ones to use the dual core G5 processors, with two separate processor cores on one chip. The "Quad Core" model has two G5 970MP processors with two cores each, resulting in the "Quad Core" designation. This is the fastest pre-Intel Mac available.

- PC4200 DDR RAM. Must be installed in pairs. Max: 16 GB in eight RAM slots
- Single and dual display support, with support up to 2560x1600 (1920x1200 on the end display with standard video card)
- 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 2 FireWire 400 ports and 1 FireWire 800 port
- 2 ea. open full-length four-lane PCI-E slots, 1 ea. full-length eight-lane PCI-E slot, and 1 ea. sixteen-lane PCI-E slot occupied by the video card.
- Two 3.5" hard drive bays
- Airport and Bluetooth slots
- Gigabit Ethernet
