In 2006, Apple made the switch from the G4 processor to the Intel processor in the Mac mini. Because the majority of uses for a Mac mini are not particularly processor intensive, we find that the used G4-based Mac minis sell just as well, if not better, than the Intel-based ones, especially since price is a key component to this decision. In addition, Apple went to the integrated graphics processor on the Intel-based Mac minis, so in some cases certain games will play better on the older models.
However, for those who need or prefer the Intel processor, you just can't get any cheaper or smaller than an Intel-based Mac mini. While not a large success, the Mac mini has found a number of uses in niche markets where a pint-sized Mac is very handy. Due to an exceedingly clever design, looking at the mini, or holding it in your hand, is a bit of a marvel when one considers it'll do all the computing stuff a much larger Mac will do.
The differences in the various Intel-based Mac minis are really only based on the processor upgrades, until 2009 when some of the graphics, speed and RAM capabilities were enhanced.
