Until the iPad came along, the MacBook Air was the de facto Apple standard for lightweight computing. The iPad has put a dent in some of the need for the Air, but the iPad is not a full computer, the MacBook Air is. A computer gives you things an iPad cannot, so if you want light, and you want computer, the MacBook Air is an outstanding choice.

MacBook Air is nearly as thin as your index finger. Practically every detail that could be streamlined has been. Yet it still has a full-size keyboard and large multi-touch trackpad. It's incomparably portable without the usual ultraportable screen and keyboard compromises. The full-size, illuminated keyboard is perfect for staying productive on a plane or in a conference hall.

Note that some units have standard drives and some have flash-based drives. The primary advantages of the Flash-based solid-state drive vs. the standard drive is overall drive performance and drive durability and reliability. There is no noticeable change in battery life with either drive option.
