The "Aluminum" 15-inch PowerBooks added features such as FireWire 800, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth slots, as well as of course the aluminum housing. Featuring a PowerPC 7447 G4 processor, they are a robust choice for laptop users who prefer the G4 processor (with its excellent price-to-power ratio). The bright widescreen TFT displays feature 1280x854 native resolution (1440x960 on the last hi-res 1.67 GHz model).
Since they are a newer model than the original 15-inch Titanium PowerBooks, they are only able to run OS 9 ('Classic') applications under emulation, i.e. they are not 'dual-bootable' (they must boot into OS X), meaning that the Titanium laptops, which can dual-boot, are often a better choice of a pre-owned 15-inch laptop for those users needing to run certain OS 9 applications.
These solidly-built laptops are capable of handling just about any task normally given a laptop. Some models also feature the "ambient light sensor" which automatically adjusts keyboard illumination and screen brightness based on the light available in the vicinity.
