Text Editor Insterting The Wrong Characters

Thursday, October 2, 2008 / Software

I have a friend whose Mac will not allow her to insert special symbols correctly from the character palette. Sometimes the chosen character just will not insert and sometimes the character chosen is not the character that is inserted. I’d like to help her but this stumps me. And I’ve never encountered the problem before.

Not all text editors support the full range of characters available. Your friend needs to make sure they are typing in an application and font that supports a full Unicode (UTF-8) character set. It may be the application is misunderstanding the Unicode representation of the symbol being inserted. If possible, try a different font.
