We’ve been selling Apple products a long, long time. Long enough to have an ocean of things only the most rabid Apple fanboy would care to care to see or own. Marvelously old, crusty Apple things that died long ago. Signs, crates of who-knows-what, pallets full of machines from a bygone era. Mostly the Clinton era, but I digress …
One of these crusty old things is this gold plated, brand-new 8GB 3rd gen iPod nano:
Ya see – when you’ve got thousands of things everywhere all the time, stacked and packed in a big ol’ warehouse, it becomes near impossible to keep track of everything.
So, one of our warehouse crew hit the snack machine the other day, selecting a Payday candy bar – and out drops a gold plated iPod nano. From 2007.
$2.50 later and this chap has a handful of these gold plated nanos – and one seriously old candy bar.
I’m sure we had great plans for these things. But now we might was well use them to establish Max’s street cred…
Are we embarrassed by this? Sure, maybe a little. We blew $150 to have each of them plated in the finest gold-gilt our purse strings could manage, just to drop them in the bottom of our vending machine and totally lose track of them. Maybe we did it on purpose, who the hell knows.
All I can say is we conned the hombre who scored these things into letting us give them away to you folks – so drop us a comment listing the new features you’d like to see on these new iPods.
We’ll pick a couple lucky commenters at random – so you too can fulfill your dreams of a blinged-out grill which also happens to play your favorite tunes!

I expect Apple to bring a front facing camera on the Touch thus bringing more users into the FaceTime fold (and allowing me to use FaceTime since I am on Verizon with work and can’t get an iPhone.. yet). I hope all of their devices except maybe the Classic (if they keep it around) go touch screen entirely with some buttons on the side to keep it easy to use in your pocket.

I’d like to see “facetime” on a new iPod Touch. I use my Touch every day for email and web browsing, music and often video/movies. The Wifi works great.

I’ve heard there’s a possibility there won’t be a clickwheel anymore. so the idea of another touchscreen might be in the works. Perhaps more screen space (how do you do this without stepping on the heels of the iPod Touch?) and a pico projector to show movies.

Nano – smaller and more square with touch screen (like macrumors is speculating), this way it will fit in my running fuel-belt pouch and it will be small enough I won’t notice it but I can still see things going on on the screen (unlike a shuffle). If it somehow kept the camera, that would be awesome.
iPod Touch – camera with equal quality to the new iPhone’s would be very nice. and geo-location. And if it is “replacing” the iPod classic, then it should have the ability to hold at least 160gb of music (because some people actually have that much and “need” it with them all the time!). Also, if it could cook me breakfast and wash my dishes for me, that would be lovely.

I want to see iTunes in the cloud and wi-fi across the entire iPod line for access to streaming content. Syncing music and video wirelessly between all of my apple devices would be awesome! Also wouldn’t mind an iTunes subscription service if all content were in the cloud. Can I get a witness?!?!

I would love to see in a new version a larger screen but keeping the same iPod Touch external size, a thinner and lighter construction. Also better battery life and much better screen resolution. Maybe a black matte aluminium unibody, jmm gorgeous.

3) Add touch screen interface to all of the iPods
4)Choose to ditch the iPod OS and go with iOS 4
Maybe it’s just me but there iOS operating system is pretty decent
5) Change the Display to Retna. Everybody likes the new displays why wait…
6) If your offering iTunes in the “Sky” then put some sort of 3G/Wifi on the Devices.
7) Granted of Course “people of the earth” can pay for these devices, include these features at a low price!

More memory: 120Gig or 160Gig. . . flash or course.
Whole device, larger, higher resolution touch screen. . . no black edges.
Facetime, of course.
Really long battery charge life: days and days of 3d video games.
Removable, high capacity storage, like 16 Gig SD card maybe.
Built-in “lojack” system. AN ON-DEVICE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT!!!! (something fun like Smalltalk, Python, or Postscript)

The nano will look stupid as a touch screen square. It should be a touch screen rectangle. Now THAT would be something.

I can’t see the ipod nano getting the small form factor and the ipod shuffle still existing, so either they’re killing the shuffle, maybe separating the nano into two lines- one similar to what’s out now, and one with the square touchscreen only, or the shuffle’s getting a little screen that will make up for the current, awful design scheme.

I would like to see a teleportation App for the new iPod Touch, you use face time to find a place you want to go, and you touch the App, and boom you are there.
Other then that, I would like to see a camera, flash and facetime, along with 3g on the iPod Touch, I think that would be cool.

I’m looking for them to release a new iPad with a front facing cam and a couple updates to bring it up to iPhone 4 or beyond capabilities, including a faster processor. The iPod Touch will also be just shy of an iPhone 4’s capabilities without the phone features. iTV will also make an appearance, just hope it’s not like they are claiming and going backwards in features such as a large hard drive for storage and the Mac OS X operating system on it in favor of the iOS operating system…

Thinking stretch goal(s) for this announcement, still beating back a bloodbath in the press from the iPhone 4 Jobs needs a positive press story here. Mainstream an experimental self-charging battery for the Shuffle. Heck, removable battery for the Nano or Touch. Or really go out there and hit us with a multi-carrier 3G Touch with a FaceTime not reliant on wifi.

The clickwheel will disappear from the Nano and the Classic, both of which will move to touchscreens (so basically the Classic will be like a thick Touch with more capacity and a mechanical drive). The Nano will have a 1.8″ touchscreen. The Shuffle will die in favor of the new lower-priced Nano (starting at $99). The Touch will gain both a front and rear-facing camera, and a modest redesign that will bring a back more similar to that of the iPad. There will be a 3G-enabled Touch for $99 extra. The Touch, Classic, and Nano will all have retina displays with resolutions appropriate for their sizes. There will be no 7″ iPad, but iOS4 for the iPad will be demoed.

A camera on the iPod touch would be great, definitely a retina display. A 3G service for the iPod touch would be kickass. A built in microphone so u don’t have to use the mic on the headphones all the time too. iPod touch should have Cole options as well along with your choice of back plate color.

Ohhh, I can’t wait untill the event!!! I’m guessing a touch nano of some sort and the iPod touch will get a retina display, dual cams, an A4 processor, and a new form factor that blows us away!! Not a glass back I don’t think, more like the ipads backside… We will see! Oh I want a gold plated iPod!!! How cool is that?!?! Whip that sucker out and everybody is thinking you’re stinking rich!!! They already have video on the nano so making it camera also should be an easy fit.
On the itouch the lack of a camera is a serious oversight in my mind.

On the iPod Touch, I’d like to see a camera (front-facing or not), and the ability to take HD videos just like the iPhone. Hopefully it will also have the new retina display, and increased storage capacities. I have a first gen, so I can’t wait to upgrade!
If it’s true that the iPod Nano will have a touch screen, then who knows what the possibilities will be! Will there be tiny square games to play?

I think if they built in a couple of their best downloadable apps to the ipod touch, it would add value to the item and push users towards using the app store more frequently.
Also I think an organized “Theme” sort of thing would go well. In the app store, include some Apple made themes to make your ipod more customizable. User-created themes could be made available as well, and this would not just be for the ipod touch. Having it on their regular ipod OS for the nanos and classic and the such would be cool too. This is going out on a limb, but maybe when you download a theme the color on either the front plate or the back would change. It’s a long stretch, but it sounds possible and would be VERY cool if it became real.

The iPod touch should definitely get a front facing camera for FaceTime, and more than likely a case redesign more like the iPhone 4. The new Shuffle should be updated to have minimal controls back on the unit itself, not on the headset cable, although still allowing the cable controls to work. The iPod nano will probably become a smaller all-screen design with touch controls, making it a mini touch. This would maximize the video capabilities and allow apps to be used like the touch and iPhone.

I have certain information, from certain, unnamable sources, that the GREAT new nano might actually be a micro implant. It is not clear yet the exact methodology and insanely cool, GREAT, cutting edge technology that’s involved, but rest assured it will be something GREAT only Apple could pull off.
The rumor speculates that a shake of the head (or other body part) will provoke re-shuffle mode. Data transfer will be accomplished through a GREAT new bluetooth implementation whereby the user holds the appropriate body part close enough to the Mac to establish a connection while running iTunes. Also, remote purchases and downloads will be possible at partner merchants’ locations such as Starbucks and rumor has it Victoria’s Secret.
The current guess is that it will either be a nasal or anal implanted since the users’ actual brains are still off-limits. If it’s nasal, then maybe we could call it the nano sniffo. If it’s the alternative, well, maybe you can think of something ‘fitting’.
Either way, Apple seems to have done it again: getting the jump on the competition while achieving pioneering consumer penetration with GREAT new technology.! Wow! Isn’t that really GREAT?!?

I’ve heard they will eliminate click wheel on Nano and use a touch screen – I have small fingers, but not that small! The click wheel needs to stay on the Nano. Wish the Nike+ sensor would be more accurate! Maybe allow the Nano to use Apps??I love pairing the Nano and Nike+ shoes and sensor, but accuracy is suspect. A GPS would be nice. iPhone and Touch iPod are too big to carry when I run (I hate the arm band!)!!

I believe that there will bean Itunes in the Clouds update. Itunes will be able to be streamed/synched from your me account across all your platforms of apple gadgets. This will make synching faster, easier and better. Can you imagine being on the road and synching up to your laptop at home, or apple tv back at the crib? It is going to happen.

Camera for the iPod Touch is a gimmie, certain there will be two same as the iPhone. The big news will be 3G availability same as the iPad. More memory and a faster processor. All will be able to access the upcoming iTunes Cloud that will be available at a later date. Nano get an update primarily a touch screen. Nothing happening to the shuffle except maybe a price drop. iPods with hard drives will be discontinued as obsolete by the iTunes Cloud.

I’m fairly certain it will be introduced with the addition of the retina display as well, because let’s face it….

Well, well personally I think a camera/flash is a no-brainer. After all, they already added a camera to the Nanos so why wouldn’t they put one in the Touch as well? Retina display, of course. And always…more bigger storage. This is an instance of something where you never CAN have too much.

So many good ideas here. FaceTime is the obvious one, but total iTunes music streaming would be awesome — the ability to access all my media from anywhere. Media streaming is changing almost daily nowadays (Hulu, Hulu Plus, Netflix, etc…) and it’d be great if Apple could finally solve the conundrum and bring some peace to this troubled world!

I’d like to see more battery life and a camera on a new ipod. Strange as it is, I’d also like to see different sizes as well… maybe something slightly bigger than the current ipod touch so that there is more screen.
I do a bit of art too and it’d be great to have a stylus to draw on it with for ideas.
I guess, you know, an iPad that isn’t iPad size. :nodnodnod:

I’d love to see a drastically new nano design, maybe a re-thought out click wheel (since the current one is fully functional, but dated at this point. New wildly funky colors would be cool as well.
Touch, I’d like both back and front facing cameras, with photography, video, and also face time capabilities. I’m thinking these devices will be based off of the new iPhone 4 platform, in terms of exterior design as well as operating system.
Classic will probably stay basically the same, since its only market are people who want to transfer MASS amounts of music to a portable device. Maybe some new or larger storage options.
Shuffle… can it get ANY SMALLER?! haha

Heres to a new ipod touch! If it has the same 5-Megapixel Camera & AWESOME display of the iphone I’ll be buying one immediately. But one idea that seems to be missing is a 3G ipod touch! Would this make sense, given that its yet another device that AT&T can charge for 3G access? If the Ipad can do it, why not the ipod?

I’m guessing a front-facing camera for FaceTime, the gyroscope for games, but no retina display. In lieu of a higher resolution display, it’ll come with an extra large dose of reality distortion field, and compatibility with some exercise gear that nobody will ever use because they’re too busy watching Netflix on it.

Ipod touch will get a new design, and a front facing camera for facetime…and maybe a rear facing one. Shuffle will become even smaller, and will make me scratch my head once again. Classic will get a spec bump, but not much more. Could be trashed in fact. Ipod Nano will get much smaller touch screen, as suggested, and perhaps replace the shuffle. Crazy world

The best thing would be an in the clouds storage option that could be connected to with wi fi or 3gs really fast. This way storage on a hand held device wouldn’t matter.
Also an improved video camera. It’s allot more important to share what I’m seeing in real time as opposed looking at each other.
Finally, “Body Armor” for this thing to make it as rugged as possible would be useful.

Since I’ve already seen a mockup of the new iPod nano, my guess is just going to be in the area of Apple TV. Like most people I’m expecting them to offer a new iOS4-based Apple TV. Not sure how accurate the guesses about renaming it iTV are. Along with that I expect some iTunes streaming feature that will tie in to both the set-top box and new iPods.

I definitely think they will be announcing that a camera and Mic is included with the newest iPod Touches. Maybe there will be a faster connection time with the newest iPod touches as well. As far as the iPod Nano is concerned I think the announcement might be that the screen sizes are even bigger yet again on the newest models and I wouldn’t be shocked if storage on the newest models is greater either especially if there may be an iTunes TV show rentals feature. These are just some of my thoughts. And I would love it if they would add a screen to the iPod Shuffle.

Surprised more folks aren’t making noise for GPS on the iPod touch. That, plus the camera could make for a great geo-tagging set-up. 3G access (a la iPad and Kindle) would also be great. I live in an area with [gasp] no cell service, so an iPhone and its associated plan are relatively useless to me. However, when on the road, 3G would save me from having to duck into a McD’s or Starbucks just to check e-mail or use TouchTerm.

I think the new Touch will have a built-in connection to accommodate flash drives and/or SD cards to give expanded ability to link to any computer or other device that accommodates those formats. This would give the Touch an important flexibility that allows it to be a central device at home and, especially, while traveling.

I’m ambivalent about the prospect of replacing the click wheel with a touchscreen…imagine my world: It’s 8:30 in the morning, the morning sun has cleared the coastal mountains, there’s a slight breeze off the ocean, gulls call in the harbor, and I’m clipping my old Nano to the back of my running shorts, running the cord of my Sennheiser PMX80’s down the back of my shirt, and start running down the bike path along the beach…only to have some slow song come on–maybe 42 by Coldplay, and it just doesn’t bode well to run five miles at this pace. So reach down behind me and find the Nano, the correct side of the wheel, *click* I get Lovers In Japan. Nice. How can I do this with a touchscreen? I can’t. I’ll have to go with some sort of arm holder or something, and the long cord will get in the way, or…blah! See? Save The Wheel!

I’d love to see a new iPod touch with a built mic, camera and 3G/wifi data support much like the iPad has. This would eliminate my wish for a iPhone with a long and expensive contract. maybe even if the new iPod touch looked like the iPhone 4! that would really be great!

how about an old feature i’d like to see? being able to connect to it as a usb drive to take files back and forth with you.

I would like to see wifi on all models and wifi backup to Time Capsule especially for iPhone iPad. Wireless syncing would be excellent. For iPad iOS 4 I would like to see printing since the iPad can almost replace a laptop but can’t print easily. iPod Touch would be great with 128GB capacity.

Three major iPod dream items:
iSun wake-up alarm. iPod softly glows in the morning, and wakes you in the same way those Sunrise Alarm Clocks do.
iPoogle (searches google for your customized thing: recipes, craigslist dream items, etc.)
Remote locator device. Finds your iPod (beeps louder when you get closer, etc.)
Knowing Apple, these are already in the works.

I actually like these things as they are, but more space and more colors (or patterns) never hurt.
iPod Classic
Rather than boost the HDD size, just keep it the same, make the thing smaller and cheaper. That would be rad! Or make the Nanos HDD so much bigger you can cut the classics alltogether.

Boom, it’s like magic. They will release new a iPod Touch with a camera. I think the form factor will more closely resemble the current iPod Touch than the iPhone 4G. They will release the game center update to the iOS. They will demo some new exciting apps and games. They will talk about the stunning adoption rate of the iPhone 4 despite antenna gate issues. They will talk about there new Data Center in North Carolina. There will be an appearance by none other then Lady Gaga.

If they can’t manage more storage on the iPod Touch, then PLEASE jazz up some features on the iPod Classic 160 GB (to which I am still faithful). Wireless syncing with iTunes, WiFi, larger screen… I just can’t even look at something that maxes out at what, 64 GB? My trusty iPod’s hard drive is doing the creaking dance of impending death, however, so I’m hoping for some innovations that will lure me to the Touch…
The iPad…maybe a lid?
Or perhaps make them each really tiny, yet have the capacity to hold a billion songs. (The Invisa?)

This apple presentation will focus on the iPod touch. Most sources think the iPod will feature iPhone 4 features. It will for surely include a front and/or back camera and a more crispy display (retina). FaceTime and a new design may also be expected. No one really knows what Steve jobs has up his sleeve. It will be a great surprise to all of us!

Are we allowed a list? More memory is number one for me, then a camera worth using (flash, better lens, etc.), and software that would allow hi-def video with the screen to go with that software). While I love my Touch, and now my iPad, I still love my old little square Nano. It fits in a pocket better than any of the other ones. Plus if you are a runner and use the Nike +system, there is no better. That being said there are a few things I would like to see, for anything they come out with:
Longer memory
Voice recording
Wi-Fi sync capability
Camera (on a little square one to take pictures of wildlife while running)

I’ve always liked the squatter form factor of the 3G Nano and how comfortable it fit in both my hand and, more importantly, in my pocket. So any design changes that allow future iPods to slip easily into my pocket make me happy. But I would be sorry to lose the click wheel. Touch screens are really nice, but because I live where it frequently cold, I always appreciated that the click wheel never required me to take off my gloves to change songs or navigate menus.

iPod Nano – smaller form factor/case, possibly a camera, replacement for the touch wheel with touch screen to reduce manufacturing costs. That will probably turn out to be a bad idea.
iPod touch – front and rear camera, modified case design, updated operating system or significant enhancements to it with new apps to match those improvements.

“Retina” screen (iPhone 4) would be great on all these devices. iPod in particular, wish they would enlarge the screen as much as possible, i.e., more landscape. Also, wifi connectivity.
